Paignton Pilgrims 1 Buckland Athletic 9.Buckland played Pilgrims for the second time in a week due to the Cup programme being cancelled due to the under 12's Rep side game in North Devon, Strangely enough Bucks are away to the same team in the Cup later this month, this was Bucks third and last league game against the Pilgrims. The other two games at Homers Heath were tight affairs bucks winning by the odd goal each time in scrappy games.Bucks changed the line up starting with new boy Gordon Williams who has just moved to the area from Glasgow in centre of defence and Alec Reade in left midfield, priority from the start was to breake Pilgrim spirit by all out attack from the start, with in minutes Gavin Collins, James Findley & Ryan Frayne all missed good chances,.Pilgrims worked hard to weather the storm but after 8 mins a through ball by Ben Holmes was latched onto by R Frayne who lashed the ball home, two minutes later Adam Fursdon volleyed home Bucks second when Pilgrim failed to clear a corner. The flood gates opened and Bucks encamped in the Pilgrim half for the rest of the half adding three further goals, two from Frayne and one from Collins, with the score 5-0 at half time all three subs were introduced. Bucks still attacked with menace and Frayne scored two more goals to make it 7-0 with only eight minutes of the second half gone,Pilgrims then had a five minute spell of possession and forced two great saves from Henry Young in goal, but Bucks countered with Findley and Frayne adding Bucks eighth and ninth goals, Pilgrims scored a consolation late on which was a small disappointment after a very good performance. Bucks move onto WBB this weekend for the big Derby game, Bucks will need to be at there best to beat the team in second position in the league.Well done lads. |
